  • Spiti
  • 11 Nights 12Days

Overview

The Kinnaur and Spiti Adventure Valley Tour (11 Nights / 12 Days) is a breathtaking journey through two of Himachal Pradesh’s most captivating regions—Kinnaur and Spiti Valley. Starting from the colonial hill town of Shimla, the route winds through lush green valleys, ancient villages, apple orchards, and dramatic river gorges of Kinnaur, before entering the stark, high-altitude desert landscape of Spiti. Over 12 unforgettable days, travelers explore hidden Himalayan gems like Sangla, Chitkul (the last Indian village near the Tibetan border), Kalpa with its views of the Kinnaur Kailash range, and the ancient monasteries of Tabo and Dhankar. The tour also includes visits to remote Spitian villages like Langza, Hikkim (home to the world’s highest post office), and Komic, one of the highest inhabited villages in Asia. A major highlight is a night of camping at the surreal Chandratal Lake, known for its crystal-clear, crescent-shaped waters and star-filled night skies. The journey concludes in Manali, after crossing the scenic Kunzum and Rohtang passes. Combining natural beauty, cultural immersion, and adventure, this tour is perfect for travelers seeking an offbeat Himalayan experience.

Day 1: Arrival in Shimla

Arrive in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, known for its colonial architecture and cool mountain air. Spend the day exploring Mall Road, The Ridge, Christ Church, and nearby attractions. This is also the day to acclimatize and prepare for the journey ahead.

Day 2: Shimla to Sarahan

Drive through dense pine forests and apple orchards via Narkanda and Rampur. Reach Sarahan, a quiet village overlooking the snow-capped Shrikhand Mahadev Peak. Visit the centuries-old Bhimakali Temple, an important Hindu pilgrimage site.

Day 3: Sarahan to Sangla

Descend into the beautiful Sangla Valley of Kinnaur, nestled along the Baspa River. En route, enjoy stunning cliffside roads and deep gorges. Explore the scenic village of Sangla and relax amidst lush greenery and snow-clad mountains.

Day 4: Sangla to Chitkul – Kalpa

Take a short drive to Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibet border. Surrounded by alpine forests and meadows, Chitkul offers untouched Himalayan beauty. Later, drive to Kalpa, a serene village with panoramic views of the Kinnaur Kailash range.

Day 5: Kalpa to Nako

Travel deeper into the mountains, transitioning from green Kinnaur to the desert-like terrain of Spiti. Reach Nako, a tranquil high-altitude village famous for Nako Lake and Buddhist monasteries. Optional short hikes around the lake and village.

Day 6: Nako to Tabo (via Gue Mummy)

Visit the Gue village, home to a naturally preserved 500-year-old mummy of a Buddhist monk. Continue to Tabo, known for its 1,000-year-old monastery, often called the “Ajanta of the Himalayas” due to its ancient murals and paintings.

Day 7: Tabo to Kaza (via Dhankar Monastery & Pin Valley)

En route to Kaza, explore Dhankar Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliff with views of the confluence of the Spiti and Pin rivers. If open, detour into the stunning Pin Valley National Park, known for its wildlife and unique landscapes. Arrive in Kaza, the administrative hub of Spiti Valley.

Day 8: Kaza – Local Sightseeing (Langza, Hikkim, Komic)

Spend the day exploring some of the highest inhabited villages in the world. Visit Langza, famous for fossil hunting and the giant Buddha statue, Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office, and Komic, one of the world’s highest motorable villages.

Day 9: Kaza to Chandratal Lake

Drive over Kunzum Pass (4,590 m) to reach Chandratal Lake, one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in the Himalayas. The crescent-shaped lake is surrounded by mountains and offers a surreal camping experience under a sky full of stars.

A thrilling drive through Batal, Gramphu, and Rohtang Pass brings you to Manali, marking the end of the high-altitude desert terrain. The landscape changes dramatically from barren to green as you descend into the Kullu Valley.

Day 11: Manali – Leisure Day

Spend a relaxed day in Manali. You can visit Hadimba Temple, Mall Road, Vashisht Hot Springs, or just unwind in a café by the river. This is also a buffer day in case of any road delays earlier in the journey.
